I first learned about sugar gliders many years ago and instantly fell in love with their beautiful faces. I knew since they were an "exotic" pet they would need special care and "know-how". So my husband and I began to do some research. I read alot (on and off the internet) but mostly talked to people that HAD them to get that "practical" side you sometimes dont get in a book. After 3 years we decided we were "ready". I had already decided I would not buy from a "mill breeder" type (I SUGGEST YOU DON'T AS WELL!) so I looked at ads for someone who just couldnt keep theirs anymore.
We found a "breeding" pair that desparately needed a home. We were disappointed as we really wanted sugar glider babies, but went to look as the price was incredible! They were not hand tame at all (I got bit numerous times trying to check them out) so we were very close to saying "NO" but then I noticed the mom was pregnant (carrying joeys in a pouch) so my hero (husband) says "we'll take them!"
We now have a happy family of 4 adorable sugar gliders. And the best (in my opinion) is Arwen. She is one of the joeys that was born (came out of pouch) in our home about a week later. Unfortunately mom (Gizmo) wasnt producing enough milk for two and she rejected Arwen. She was half the size of her brother and very weak, but I hand raised her and now she is just the MOST amazing Sugar Glider ever!
It is truly amazing how easy it is to become...addicted...to these incredible creatures! So I decided I wanted to share with everyone alittle about them, as well as I have made toys and pouches for mine, so why not for other people as well? I have also invented a great sugar glider treat that I will be sharing on this site as well.
